eCoC XML validation: understand the check before fixing the record

Generating an XML file and obtaining a successful validation result are different milestones. A validation message is useful when it helps your team identify the information that needs attention. Rather than treating every message as the same kind of problem, look at the check being applied and follow the issue back to the vehicle record.

Confirm the vehicle context before changing fields

Check the approval, vehicle profile and template behind the record. Individual values can look plausible while belonging to the wrong category or completion stage. Establishing which vehicle the record represents helps you investigate the right issue instead of repeatedly adjusting fields within an incorrect starting context.

Understand what the schema checks

XSD validation assesses whether the XML follows the expected schema structure. Element placement, data formats and missing required structures can cause problems at this level. Passing a structural check does not establish that every technical value is correct. The contents of the vehicle record still need to be reviewed in their own context.

Read business rules in context

ICM and related business rules help assess relationships between the information supplied. A value that makes sense in isolation may not be appropriate alongside a particular selection or technical characteristic. When a message points to a field, review its related values and vehicle settings as well as the field itself.

Correct the record, then regenerate the output

Make the correction in the source vehicle record and create a fresh XML file before checking again. Editing a downloaded file independently can leave your system record and final document describing different versions of the vehicle. Keeping the output tied to the current record gives your team a more traceable way to resolve issues.

Know what a successful result does—and does not—establish

Validation, signing and authority acceptance are separate steps. A successful check is not a guarantee that every receiving authority will accept the file under every circumstance. Connection arrangements, onboarding and certificate requirements still apply. Keeping these milestones separate makes it easier to understand what is ready and what remains to be completed.
