Manufacturer integration planning guide

Plan an eCoC API integration before development starts

A useful integration brief connects production data with the approval context and the people who release the eCoC. This guide helps ERP, IT and homologation teams agree the scope before building a connection. It is a planning checklist, not endpoint documentation or proof that a particular connector is available.

01

Collect a representative data sample

Choose a vehicle family and assemble an anonymized record from the systems used today. For each value, identify its source, owner, format and change trigger. Include information maintained outside ERP, especially approval references and technical values reviewed by homologation.

  • VIN and production status: source and update event.
  • Type approval, variant and version: owner and applicable reference.
  • Technical values: units, permitted formats and review responsibility.
02

Write the exchange contract

Agree the records entering the workflow, the response expected by the source system and when updates occur. Define how an imported value is reviewed rather than assuming that technical receipt means release. Keep the ERP exchange separate from signing and the receiving authority or NAP interface.

  • Input fields, required values and version identification.
  • Expected response and responsibility for exceptions.
  • Access conditions and the method for reporting changes.
03

Define exception and correction cases

Describe what should happen when a required value is missing, an approval reference conflicts, the exchange is interrupted or the same record arrives again. Record who resolves each case and how a corrected version is distinguished from the earlier input.

  • Incomplete or inconsistent source record.
  • Interrupted exchange and repeated transfer.
  • Correction before release and correction after downstream submission.
04

Agree pilot acceptance criteria

Select a small representative set of vehicles and write expected outcomes for both successful and failed paths. Verify the proposed data exchange, review responsibilities and evidence together. Assess downstream signing and delivery under their own conditions before treating the full workflow as ready.

  • Vehicle family, sample scope and accountable reviewers.
  • Expected outcome and evidence for each test case.
  • Change ownership and criteria for extending the initial scope.

Questions and answers

Should we start with an API or a file export?

Choose after assessing source-system access, update frequency, data quality and operating responsibilities. An existing export can support an initial assessment; API automation needs a stable exchange contract.

Is an ERP connection the same as NAP connectivity?

No. One brings manufacturer data into the preparation process. The other concerns the downstream receiving interface. Access, message requirements and acceptance must be evaluated separately.

Which ERP systems have ready-made connectors?

This guide does not establish a supported connector list. Describe your ERP version and available interfaces so that the proposed connection can be assessed and verified before a commitment is made.
